scamp camp and SCALLYWAG Camp

Both SCAMP Camp and SCALLYWAG Camp are an opportunity for you to join in a group build of these two remarkable small boats. Camps are conducted for ten working days beginning on a Monday and running through the Friday of the next week. The boats we team up to build are SCAMP kits available from Small Craft Advisor and precut parts for SCALLYWAG as kits are not yet available.

Your instructors will be John Welsford and Howard Rice. To date Howard has instructed the build of over 80 SCAMP’s. Most of these boats are SCAMP Camp builds and five are complete custom builds including one he built for his own use.

How the SCAMP Camp group build works.
Register for the build and order a kit from Duckworks. The kit is then delivered to the build site. Howard organizes the kit parts, constructs the building jig and has all the materials you and your classmates will need to complete the build. The build begins at 8am on Monday morning and when the class ends you will drive away with a very accurate SCAMP approximately 50% complete ready for you to complete at home with your newly acquired skills.

Many of our clients have described SCAMP Camp as a life changing experience. We work together as a team on each boat and in the process you will become a boat builder through hands on work. The atmosphere is fun, experiential and totally absorbing. Boat building tends to bring out the best in folks and we hope you will join us.

We have been pioneering a new way to go about getting on the water. “In Your Shop” boat building, rigging, modifying and other consultation services are available, effective and so easy to do together. We have successfully assisted/instructed the build of a SCAMP via video (cell phone camera).
As odd as this sounds it actually works and has proven to be a highly effective and very affordable way to build a boat at home with expertise available to help from set up to finish.

Small Craft Skills Seminar/scamp skills weekend

Join us for an informative skill building seminar. To date we have facilitated Skills Seminars that have helped over four hundred sailors ranging from beginners to experts. Our shared information format is unique in that we recognize everyone brings experience and skills and so we facilitate, deliver specific content and give participants a voice.
